Our Brain in Survival Mode
WHODUNNIT?
We just learned that, in survival mode, our thoughts are down-regulated to allow us to respond quickly and efficiently to threats.
We therefore exist in a blur of feelings, actions, feelings, actions.
By down regulate thinking, we downregulate the ability to consciously modify our actions with thoughts. We feel out of control. Everything just happens to us and there is nothing we can do about it.
In many ways, we don’t have agency because our brains haven’t left much room for our executive function to intervene.
